The Studio

Dex has a professionally equipped studio treated with Pro-coustix Ultraflex acoustic tiles and incorporating the Sennheiser MK4 studio condenser microphone with pop filter, the Synco D2 Shotgun microphone, Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro headphones, Presonus Eris 5BT Active Studio Monitors, Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Audio Interface, feeding into Steinberg Cubase 13 Digital Audio Workstation and Magix Sound Forge Pro 17 audio editing software.

More on some of the key equipment used:

The MK 4 is a large-diaphragm true condenser microphone for professional studio recordings. Featuring fine resolution and outstanding sound quality, the MK 4 is easy to handle and excellent value for money, making it an ideal choice for professional project studios and home recordists. It features a 1″ true condenser capsule based on the acoustics of the e 965 high-end vocal mic, optimised for recording. The MK 4 is made in Germany, its transducer being manufactured in the same facility as all high-end Sennheiser condenser capsules.

The SYNCO Mic-D2 is a professional hypercardioid XLR shotgun mic carries a solid brass construction, extremely low self-noise, ultra-flat frequency response, and a gold plated XLR connector. The hypercardioid polar pattern delivers sharpened frontal focus and side rejection compared to supercardioid shotgun microphones, allowing it to capture clear, broadcast-quality dialogue.

The Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro are lightweight, closed-back dynamic headphones.
Designed to provide a superior sound for recording and mixing. These are closed reference headphones designed for critical music and sound monitoring in an open environment.

This incredible bit of kit is the hub of the Dex recording studio. It enables studio quality recording using high-performance converters enabling recording and mixing at up to 24-bit192kHz. Pro-performance with the finest pre-amps enabling a brighter and a more open recording from one of the best performing mic pre-amps the Scarlett range has ever seen. This pre-amp captures voice recordings with clarity without any unwanted clipping or distortion due to its intuitive Gain Halos. It provides low-noise for crystal clear listening – Two low-noise balanced outputs provide clean audio playback. This enables Dex to hear all the details and nuances of his recordings, helping to get the mix just right.

These studio monitors offer precise sound for mixing, suitable for studio professionals, music producers, video creators, and gamers. A compact design with 25 watts on each side, powered by a 5.25-inch woofer, delivering impactful bass and overall clarity. A silk dome tweeter ensures detailed high frequencies and wide dispersion, expanding the optimal listening area.

This is the reference standard for music (and voice) production software. As Steinberg themselves put it ‘From Hollywood blockbuster composers and Billboard Hot 100 producers right through to keen beginners, the world of music production trusts in Cubase.’

This software has set the audio editing standard for artists, producers, and sound and mastering engineers in the audio editing sector for over three decades.
With precise tools, innovative editing functions, and high-end plug-ins, it enables the creation of masters for podcasts, broadcast, physical media, or streaming in accordance with international standards.
